This procedure addresses engineered facilities at sites receiving municipal and/or non hazardous

wastes and applies to the assessment of new landfills or landfills requiring expansion.

The term "facility" as used in this document refers to the entire system or the individual

components of a system that is established to serve a particular purpose. For example, the term

would apply to an entire leachate collection system or the pumps and pipes that may comprise that

system. Although the general engineering principles on which this document is based are applicable

to closed landfills or landfills requiring remedial measures for contaminant control, the document

itself is not intended to address such landfills and its specific requirements may not be applicable.

Engineered facilities at sites receiving hazardous wastes, as defined by Regulation 347, will be dealt

with on a case-by-case basis.
