Introduction

In accordance with a decision taken at its Thirteenth Session (Maldives, 22 and 25-28 September

1997) and other subsequent decisions, the IPCC decided: To include a Synthesis Report as part of

its Third Assessment Report That the Synthesis Report would provide a policy-relevant, but not

policy-prescriptive, synthesis and integration of information contained within the Third Assessment

Report and also drawing upon all previously approved and accepted IPCC reports that would

address a broad range of key policy-relevant, but not policy-prescriptive, questions That the

questions would be developed in consultation with the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
