| | Objectives of the Conference |
| | The first session of the conference will focus on establishing facts as regards environmental crime. |
| |
| | The quantification of environmental crime is difficult because criminal activity is in itself an |
| | underground and clandestine activity. In that respect, environmental crime does not differ from any |
| | other criminal activity. But it should be noted that environmental crime has specific features when |
| | compared to other forms of crime. Environmental damage affects society in it’s entirety. It is often |
| | difficult to designate precisely what was damaged, and to evaluate the extent of damage. The only |
| | economic evaluation of the damage, often difficult, is not enough to give an idea of the various |
| | aspects of environmental damage. The speakers will give facts and concrete evaluations of |
| | environmental crime in urope in the most known sectors of the environmental crime: protected |
| | species (CITES Convention), waste, ozone, illegal logging, infrastructures and habitat. |
