The radioactive substance data of the Baltic Sea monitoring are collected since 1984 under Helsinki

Commission (HELCOM) guidance on protection of the Baltic Sea environment. These data include

data concerning the releases and discharges of nuclear power stations and other nuclear facilities

located in the basin of the Baltic Sea (Fig. 1), and also the data concerning the radionuclide content

in different objects of the marine environment (surface and bottom water, bottom sediments and

the most important biota: fish, invertebrates, seaweeds).
